Ambedkar Day 2007 Event Report

Sir Ganga Ram Heritage Foundation organized the Seminar on the Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on Friday, April 13, 2007, at Hotel Holiday Inn, Lahore. The Honourable Governor of the Punjab, Lt. Gen. (R) Khalid Maqbool was the Chief Guest. The theme of the seminar was Dr. B. R. Ambedkar – An I’con of Humanity and Universal Benevolence.” 

The hall was jam-packed by the audience and extra chairs were arranged later on. People of all walks of life i.e. advocates, professors, teachers, doctors and students were present in the Hall.

Director Sir Ganga Ram Heritage Foundation, Dr. Yousaf Bokhari delivered the welcome address. Following to welcome address, President and Founder of Scheduled Castes Federation of Pakistan, Mr. Surendar Valasai paid laurels to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.  

Board Member of Humanist Association of Nepal, Dr. Shyam Bahadur Katuwal paid elegant tributes to Dr. Ambedkar and also highlighted the problems faced by Dalits in Nepal.

Professor Dr. Chaman Lal from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi said, “Dr. Ambedkar is one of the most significant thinkers of twentieth century, not in India, rather in the whole sub-continent.

Professor Dr. Faqir Muhammad Bhatti from England delivered speech.

Dalit leader and Editor of Dalit Voice, Bangalore, Mr. V. T. Rajshekar paid immense homage to Dr. Ambedkar and accentuated the atrocities came about against Dalits by upper castes in India.  

Honourable Chief Guest; Governor of the Punjab, Lt. Gen. (R) Khalid Maqbool said in his speech that Islam gives the lesson of equality and peace to all humanity. He also said that Pakistan provides the equal rights to minorities.
