Dalit boy, caste Hindu girl found dead near Sirkali

Sirkali: A Dalit boy and a caste Hindu girl, who were reportedly in love, were found dead on a rail track near here on Saturday.

On information from Iraniyan Nagar residents, the Government Railway Police rushed to the place and found the bodies in a mutilated condition between the Sirkali and Kollidam railway stations.

A damaged mobile phone, found some yards away, was identified as used by one of them.

Based on the numbers in it, the police gave the names of the deceased as S. Dinakaran, 17, of Pazhayapalayam and I. Indumathi, 17, of Pudhupattinam. Both were Plus Two students of the Government Higher Secondary School.

They fled home

Preliminary inquiries by the police revealed that the two were in love, but since they belonged to different castes they feared that their parents might not approve their relationship.

They had left their homes a couple of days ago and their parents were in search of them, police sources said. While Dinakaran’s body was sent to Sirkali GH for post-mortem, Indumathi’s body was sent to Mayiladuthurai GH.

The Government Railway Police, Mayiladuthurai, have registered a case under Sec.174 of Code of Criminal Procedure on a complaint filed by the boy’s father, who expressed doubts over the manner the youths died.
