Dalit leader & Human right activist Milan das has physical assaulted by perpetrators
On 28/08/2014 Mr. Milan Das along with his Driver Mr. Azizur Rahman victimized by some perpetrators while he returning his home by his microbus (Dhaka Metro- Cha- 53-7260) from Shyamnagar. He along with his friend writer Bodru Md. Khalekuzzaman and Gazi Sirazul islam were gone to visit their well-wisher Father Luigi Pazzi at Shyamnagar on that day.
Approximately evening 8.00 his friend left him on kumira bazaar during his return time to his home and after left his friends he crossing the Mir zapur Bazar that time 4 perpetrators with 2 motorcycle crossed his car and after that two motor bike tried to stoppage of movement in the midway of his car at near Dhalbaria mor (1500 feet back of that mor). Suddenly his car was falling in unhelpful and his driver along with his support were tried to repair. Those perpetrators with 2 motorbike returned 20/25 minutes later and they beaten to driver first and then heated with iron rod and hock stick to Milan das to murder him.But their attempt was vain.
He victimized physically assaulted. His bone of middle position between knee and waist broken seriously and became senseless. Then hearing the news Bikash Das,Bahrul Islam and Shanti mondal and admitted him in A. Hossain Clinic at Khulna and during stay there some perpetrators conspiring to assault him again. Due to reasons of this conspiracy and became aware attendant of Milan Das replaced him from A. Hossain clinic to Islamic Bank Hospital,Khulna. After his operation he is now in his house for long bed rest for early recovery.
After occurrence a team from Parittran and Bangladesh Dalit Parishad talked with Thana In-charge Mr. Rezaul Hossain and informed him in details. Thana In-charge suggested to them for submit a complain. Tareq sarker, officer of Parittran alleged a complain to Tala Police station (no. 47. Dated on. 14/9/14).
This occurrence now under investigation. Shariful islam, In-charge of Jatpur local police station under Tala upazilla investigating this occurrence. Investigation is running till writing this report. A fact finding team from parittran observed the happened and collected witness by spot visit.
Mark Sarker, neighbours of Milon Das told that while he was admitted for emergency treatment in Khulna after assault 2 unknown personsby a motorbike (no. Jessore Ha: 11-3623) came to know the staying place of Milon Das. While he asked the identity of them they shown threat and left that village. Mr. Milan Das stated that on 18 September 2014 he got a mobile call from the number 01922-620596 named Niloy who shown silent threat that to not go for trial and he again told that caller shown why we created movement for stop child marriage of Ruma Das. (Ruma Das is daughter of Ashok Das, Vill.Lakshmanpur). Milon das stated again that, on 01/07/14 parittran raised voice for stop early marriage of Ruma das. Upazila Nirbahi officer of Talaupazilla taken action by arranged mobile court and subject to fine 1000 Tk.
There after Sanjoy Das (husband of Ruma Das) along with his father in law Ashok Das shown me threat in several time.
Although Parittran with the lead of Milan Das working for dalit rights. Parittran working for protest violence against dalits with specific focus to enhance access in public places, services & resources, protesting all kind of discrimination against dalits, women and children, providing
legal support, Human rights movement for dalits in Bangladesh, protecting women & child right, Issue based campaign for establish dalit right through advocacy, campaign, discussion, rally, human chain, memorandum submission, letter campaign, seminar, workshop, awareness building etc. In view to protect women right forced child marriage is another issue. Parittran is dedicated to protest this violence and trying to reduce child marriage as social responsibility.
Recently Parittran became reputed organization in Bangladesh even international level for its commitment and dedication for development dalits. Social acceptance of Parittran rising chronologically. Some other organizations aren’t taking as well whose are mainly involved this
violence. If Sanjoy das, Ashok Das subject to arrest and order to remand may others perpetrators find out immediately. The report (Bangla version) in details here as enclosed.
Recommendation:
- Local police have to complete the investigation and submit investigation report immediately.
- Perpetrators should sentence to exemplary punishment.
- All dalit right based organizations are requested to raising voice for protest this kind of violence and assault as well as urgent action.
