Dalits to take out rally in Gandhinagar on Monday

dalit-watch-aug-16-17aGandhinagar: Dalit bodies from various parts of the state, under the banner of Gujarat Anusuchit Jati Atyachar Ladat Samiti, have planned to take out a rally and submit a memorandum to CM Vijay Rupani in Gandhinagar on August 21. The memorandum, containing a charter of 16 demands, will be submitted to the CM, said Kirit Rathod, convener of the Samiti Tuesday. He said that an estimated 10,000 persons would take part in the rally, scheduled at 2 pm at Ambedkar statue in Gandhinagar.

Rathod, who belongs to Thangadh in Surendranagar district and is now camping in Gandhinagar, said, “We’ll give time to the government to solve our major demands, including a CBI inquiry into the Thangadh killings, cancellation of C summary report, action against guilty police personnel and action against gau rakshaks well before 2017 Assembly elections.”

Vajibhai Rathod, father of slain youth Mehul Rathod, said Muslims will also attend the rally. “We demand early justice for atrocities against Dalits.” He said Muslims would come at the meeting not under any banner, but individually.”
