Five more arrested in dalit boy’s murder case

dalit-watch-may-14-01AHMEDNAGAR: Ahmednagar police on Thursday arrested five more suspects and detained two minors for the murder of 17-year-old dalit boy Nitin Raju Aghe from Kharda village in Jamkhed taluka of Ahmednagar district.

Nitin was murdered and hanged from a tree over his alleged love affair with a minor girl from an upper caste on April 28. The police on Tuesday had arrested two suspects and detained a minor.

Deputy Superintendent of police (Karjat division) Dheeraj Patil told TOI over the phone on Wednesday that investigations revealed that the suspects in a fit of anger murdered Nitin when they saw him talking to the girl. The group had allegedly attacked Nitin with sticks and strangled him to death with a rope. They then hanged him from a tree.

“The rope used by the suspects was seized from the crime scene. The girl’s brother Sachin Golekar (21) and Sheshrao Yeole (42) arrested on Tuesday were sent in police custody remand till May 9,” said Patil.

The five suspects Pappu Golekar (24), Vilas Gadkar (23), Nilesh Golekar (23), Bhujang Golekar (42) and Eshwar Golekar (24), all from Kharda village, will be produced before the court on Thursday for seeking police custody remand, Patil said. The minors detained have been sent to remand home in Ahmednagar. He added that the law and order situation in the area was under control.

Meanwhile, senior police officials held a meeting with the members of the dalit community and residents of Kharda village and appealed to them to maintain peace. Police officials have assured them that they will take strict action against the suspects.
