In a macabre incident, four members of a Dalit family were found murdered in Phagwara (Punjab) on Friday

dalit-watch-nov-17Phagwara : A report from the district said that two others were injured in their house on the outskirts of the city. Inspector General of Police (Jalandhar Zone) Balbir K Bawa and Kapurthala SSP Inderbir Singh, who visited the site at nearby Dashmeshpuri in Kotrani locality on Phagwara-Bhanoki road identified the deceased as Seema (28), her daughter Sumni (3), son Harsh (2) and her elder sister Reena (32). The injured were Seema’s son Tari (26) and Reena’s son Harry (5).

Harry was referred to DMC Ludhiana in a serious condition, while Tari was hospitalised here and was stated to be stable by the SMO Dr Jaswinder Singh.

Singh said a board of doctors was likely to be constituted for conducting post-mortem examination.

Both the IG and SSP said that blunt weapons were used in the incident which resulted from family dispute.

They said prima facie, Baljinder alias Kala, husband of Seema, was behind it. Two to three others, including another relative, were with the suspected kingpin Kala, they said.

Kala and three others have been booked under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and 323 (causing hurt) of IPC for murdering four family members.

They claimed that the case stood cracked and the accused will be arrested within a day or two. Kala and others were still at large but will be nabbed in a day or two, they said.

They also said that Kala and Seema had strained relations because of dowry demands and she had come to her parental house after an altercation with him about a fortnight ago.
