Man brutally beaten up by moneylender

Meerut: A Dalit resident of Muzaffarnagar was brutally assaulted a local moneylender for not paying him a sum of Rs. 5000. Rantez Singh, the moneylender, not only beat Sanjeev, but also recorded the humiliation and put it up on social media.

With the video going viral on Wednesday, the Muzaffarnagar police arrested Rantez the next day.

According to complaint filed by Sanjeev, a resident of Palda village under Shahpur police station limits, he had taken a loan of Rs. 50,000 from Rantez, a resident of Ghadi Bahadurpur village, eight months ago.

Rantez demanded Rs. 1.5 lakh from Sanjeev a month later but the latter refused to pay up at such high interest rate. The matter went to the local panchayat, which asked Sanjeev to pay Rantez Rs. 75,000. Sanjeev paid the money but Rantez asked for Rs. 5,000 more.

On Wednesday when Sanjeev had gone to visit Ghadi Bahadurpur, Rantez confined him in his office where he beat him brutally.
