Probe discrimination of Dalits at Panapatti village

dalit-watch-Oct-14-35COIMBATORE:Members of the Tamilar Viduthalai Iyakkam gheraoed the District Collectorate here on Monday urging the Collector and the Superintendent of Police to take appropriate steps to put an end to the alleged discrimination of the Dalits at Panapatti village near Kinathukadavu on the outskirts of the city.

The demonstrators urged the authorities concerned to intervene without further delay.

Coordinator of the organisation C. Venmani, who led the demonstration, said that the police and authorities concerned have been stating that they would initiate action only when the victims lodged a complaint. “But, Dalits of Panapatti are not in a position to lodge any complaint against the Caste Hindus oppressing them, as they feel that they are under threat,” he said.

“The Collector and Superintendent of Police should conduct an inquiry about the allegations at the village. Action should be initiated against those found guilty under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Prevention of Atrocities Act,” he said and added that a District Judge should directly order a probe into the discrimination of Dalits if the district administration and the police failed to initiate action.
