Tirunelveli village tense as 4 dalits killed this month

dalit-watch-nov-07Tirunelveli: Family members of a Dalit farmer, who was found murdered on his farmland on Sunday morning, refused to accept the body and  staged a road-roko demanding that the murderers be brought to book, here on Sunday.

Later, they picketed the Suthamalli police station, following which security was tightened and patrolling was intensified in the area to prevent the issue from flaring up.  Sources said Paramasivan (43), a farm worker and a resident of Mupidathiamman temple street in Suthamalli, along with one Madasami, had gone to guard the tractors on the farmland. As it was raining, Madasami returned to his place leaving Paramasivan alone.

Meanwhile, early on Sunday morning, when Madasami went to the field, he found the latter dead with injures on the neck and other parts of the body. On information, Suthamalli police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.

Later in the day, Paramasivan’s relatives and locals staged a road-roko affecting traffic for sometime in Suthamalli area.

They also staged a protest in front of Suthamalli police station demanding stringent action against the murderers.

Sources said the murder of Dalits is on the rise in the district with four killings  reported this month alone.
