Ahmednagardalit killings: Family member says police delaying probe

dalit-watch-Dec-14-03Mumbai:Almost after one-and-a-half-month of the brutal murder of three members of a dalitfamily- Sanjay Jadhav, his wife Jayshree and their 20-year-old son Sunil – at Ahmednagar, there has been no breakthrough in the case. The elder brother of the deceased, DilipJadhav, accused the police of delaying the probe and said due to the investigation, no members from the family have been able to resume the work.

Dilip also alleged the police upbraided his family members, forcing them to accept that they committed the crime.

The three victims had gone missing and in a search operation, their bodies, chopped into pieces and thrown into a well in Javkheda in Ahmednagar district on October 22, were recovered.

The incident led to a widespread protest in the state and brought back memories of the horrific Khairlanji massacre where four members of a dalit family were brutallymurdered.

“I fail to understand where the investigation is heading. Now, when the police isunablre to trace the accused, they are forcing us to accept the crime. We are unable to understand the reason behind this. Although, we have given provided all the information to the police, I feel helpless as nobody is helping us,” Dilip said.

He added, “After this incident, we three brothers have not resumed our work. We are not rich and without work, we cannot survive for a long. We had crops growing in our farm, but we were unable to tend to them as we were busy in assisting the police during the investigating.”

However, on his recent visit, the chief minister, DevendraFadnavis, met the family members and assured them of speedy probe.

During the visit, the CM said the police does not have indefinite time for investigation and if they fail to solve the case within a specific period of time, the state government will have to think of transferring the case to the CBI.

But the state government did not specify the timeframe for police to solve the triple-murder case.

State governor C VidyasagarRao had recently directed the DGP to appoint a Special Task Force (STF) to probe the killings after meeting a delegation led by RPI(A) president, RamdasAthawale, at the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai.

PravinSalunke, inspector general of police, Nashik range, said, “We are not forcing anybody to accept the crime, we are just doing our investigation. For calling enquiry in this case it’s a part of investigating and we are will soon solve this case.”
