Dalit youth ends life after being thrashed by two at Narol factory

Ahmedabad: The body of a 27-year-old Dalit youth was recovered from the third floor of a factory in Devraj Estate, Narol, on September 12. A case of abetment to suicide was lodged against two people with Narol police on Thursday. The accused are on the run.

Himanshu Khodidas, of Daskroi, was allegedly thra-shed by the male staff of the Outlook factory for having an affair with one of the colleagues. The accused have been identified as Dhiru Patel and Mahadevsinh Rajput. The youth was allegedly locked in the room where he ended his life, police said.

The victim’s mother, Lalita, told police that Himanshu’s phone was switched off at around 5 pm that day, following which his elder brother, Mehul, and father went looking for him. The duo found the victim’s bike when they reached the factory.

They felt something suspicious when the security guard stopped them at the gate, Lalita said. Finally, the two entered the campus with the help of around 50 people. The victim had hanged himself to the ceiling with a wire, the police said.

Himanshu was called to the factory and allegedly beaten up by the two accused for having the affair. He was locked in a room where he committed suicide, police said. “The victim was having an affair with one of the colleagues. The girl’s parents reported the fling to the factory owners. The guards stopped the victim from meeting her when he came to the factory on September 12,” said DCP Zone 6.
