The girl, a second year diploma student, was in love with a youth who worked in Sulur area. Her lover and two of his friends lured her on a trip to Dindigul, where they reportedly murdered her and abandoned her body at an isolated place at Pandrimalai. The girl’s body was found four days later and the accused were arrested.

Her father Arumugam is a driver in a private concern. Her mother Padmavathi is a daily wage labourer in a mill. Family and villagers staged protests seeking an inquiry into the incident by the commission. Director in-charge of NCSC, Tamil Nadu, C. Chandra Prabha, who headed the committee that conducted the inquiry here on Wednesday, told The Hindu that they have completed the two-day inquiry in Dindigul and Coimbatore. She added that the Dindigul district administration had given the mandatory relief of Rs. 2,81,250 as the victim was a non-earning member. On Wednesday, the team visited the girl’s family and listened to their grievances. “Her parents alleged that the Sulur Police (attached to the Coimbatore District Unit) filed an FIR only four days after they lodged a complaint that their daughter was missing. They had to run from pillar to post to get the case registered,” she added. By then, they came to know that she was murdered.

NCSC investigator S. Lister said that they have recommended for a government job for a member of the family.
